چکیده

This study assessed the economic impact of the potential reduction of timber supply to the local forest industry and the local economy from a proposed reservoir in Northeast Texas --Marvin Nichols I Reservoir. The study first evaluated the forested acres at the reservoir site and those under habitat mitigation requirements, providing a foundation for timber supply impact assessment. Then, the timber supply impact in terms of the lost timber volume and value was estimated. Finally, the direct and total economic impacts of the reservoir to the local forest industry and the local economy were assessed using input-output method. The study found that the forest industry and the local economy would incur significant losses due to the substantial reduction in timber supply from the reservoir project. Furthermore, the economic impact of the reservoir would likely be uneven in the region. The manufacturing facilities and the communities that are dependent on hardwood resources near the reservoir site or the mitigation management areas would probably be impacted the most. The magnitude of the total impact will be primarily dependent upon the amount of forest acres set aside for mitigation wildlife habitat requirements.

Developing a Sustainable Forest Biomass Industry: Case of the US Northeast

Heightened interest in renewable energy has produced a spate of new research into the feasibility of forest biomass as a feedstock. The US Northeast is one of the few regions worldwide that supports both a large forest resource and a relatively high population density and hence energy demand. This paper outlines economic, ecological, and social considerations that must be addressed in order to ...

Hydraulic Fracturing Length Optimization and its Impact on the Reservoir Performance

Hydraulic fracturing is one of the most common methods of well stimulation for reservoirs with low permeability. Hydraulic fracturing increases the flow capacity, alters flow geometry, bypasses damage and improves recovery factor. The pressure of most of Iranian oil reservoirs is declined and consequently the production is reduced. It is necessary to improve the production by using new stimulat...

Enhanced Gas Recovery with Carbon Dioxide Sequestration in a Water-drive Gas Condensate Reservoir: a Case Study in a Real Gas Field

Gas reservoirs usually have high recovery due to high mobility and low residual gas saturation, although some of them producing under water-drive mechanism have low recovery efficiency. Encroachment of water into these reservoirs traps considerable amount of gas and increases the maximum residual gas saturation, which results in the reduction of gas and condensate production. Generally, the rec...

Estimating the Elasticity of Electricity Demand in Iran: A Sectoral-Province Approach

E nergy is one of the main and essential factors in economic growth. Electricity as one of the most important resources of energy supply for economic sectors on one hand, and as an index of welfare, on the other hand, is one of the economic development benchmarks. The growth of GDP will increase the demand for energy resources, including electricity. Hence, policymakers should pay at...

CONSTRAINED BIG BANG-BIG CRUNCH ALGORITHM FOR OPTIMAL SOLUTION OF LARGE SCALE RESERVOIR OPERATION PROBLEM

A constrained version of the Big Bang-Big Crunch algorithm for the efficient solution of the optimal reservoir operation problems is proposed in this paper. Big Bang-Big Crunch (BB-BC) algorithm is a new meta-heuristic population-based algorithm that relies on one of the theories of the evolution of universe namely, the Big Bang and Big Crunch theory. An improved formulation of the algorithm na...
